The “BML Islamic Eid Ufaa 1445” celebrations were successfully organized in Dhangethi from 06th June to 09th June 2025, upholding the noble principles of Islam and strengthening community unity. The event was jointly organized by Jamiyyathul Qalam, Dhangethi Police Station, Dhangethi Health Centre, Dhangethi Women’s Development Committee, Dhangethi Workers’ Association (DMJ), and Jamiyyatul Anwar.
Following the Eid prayer, Udhhiya (Qurbani) was performed, and the meat was distributed among the community in the spirit of sharing and compassion. A family evening was later organized, featuring a variety of sports activities, stalls, games, and special prize distributions. Children received valuable gifts, including a Several bicycles, scooters and a Laptop, many more other gifts. while adults were awarded major household items such as a TV, Umra Trip, Tools and kitchen utensils as grand prizes.
In recognition of their lifelong contributions to the community, a special appreciation ceremony was held to honor senior citizens, during which awards and prizes were presented. Games specially designed for elderly participants were also organized.
As part of the celebrations, a men’s tug of war competition was organized for residents of Dhangethi, neighboring resorts, and foreign residents living on the island. Five teams participated in the tournament, with cash prizes awarded as follows: MVR 5,000/- for first place, MVR 3,000/- for second place, and MVR 1,000/- for third place. In addition, a junior tug of war competition for boys under the age of 16 was held, with four teams competing. Cash prizes of MVR 2,500/-, MVR 1,500/-, and MVR 1,000/- were awarded to the first, second, and third-place teams respectively.
A fishing race open to the people of Dhangethi was also conducted, attracting 11 teams. The competition awarded MVR 5,000/- for first place, MVR 3,000/- for second place, and MVR 1,000/- for third place, along with additional individual cash prizes. The fish caught during the race were later used to organize an island-wide barbecue, further enhancing community bonding.
The celebrations also featured a women’s cooking competition titled “Raniraha”, with five teams participating. Cash prizes of MVR 5,000/-, MVR 3,000/-, and MVR 1,000/- were awarded to the top three teams. This year’s competition was judged by experienced chefs brought in from Vakarufalhi Island Resort to ensure greater transparency. One of the highlights of the event was the special entertainment program known as the “Bodu Mas Show”, alongside a talent showcase competition for audience members.
The events were attended by island residents of all age groups, visitors from outside the island, and foreign residents, reflecting the inclusive nature of the celebrations. The celebrations were further honored by the presence of Al-Akh Ibrahim Rameez and renowned presenter Al-Akh Ahmed Hameed Adam as special guests. The most valuable prize of the Eid celebration was a lucky draw for an Umrah trip, which added great excitement among participants.
With the blessings of Allah, community participation increased significantly, and the event was concluded successfully. This year marked the 11th Eid celebration organized by the community, standing as a testament to unity, faith, and collective effort.
