Overview
The Thartheel Qur’an Class is organized by Jamiyyathul Qalam in collaboration with the Island Council, with the aim of providing structured Qur’anic education to the community.
Due to recent changes in the education system in the Maldives, students have limited opportunities within the formal school curriculum to learn the Qur’an. As a result, many students are unable to gain sufficient Qur’anic education through schools alone. This program addresses that gap by providing additional Qur’an classes outside the formal school system.
This is the first Qur’anic class to be officially registered and formally established on the island, marking an important milestone in the development of structured and recognized Qur’anic education within the community.

In addition, Arabic language and Hifz (Qur’an memorization) classes are planned to commence in the near future.

Teaching Approach
In addition to Qur’an teaching, supplementary classes are conducted by qualified teachers from outside the island. These classes aim to nurture students with:

Objectives of the Qur’an Class
The Qur’an Class aims to:
- Provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn the knowledge of the Qur’an
- Instill love and respect for the Qur’an in the hearts of students
- Produce children and youth who can serve the community in the field of Qur’anic education
- Facilitate employment and livelihood opportunities related to Qur’an-based education
- Familiarize youth and the public with essential religious knowledge
- Provide structured and inclusive Qur’anic education, including support for students with special needs
- Strengthen Islamic values, ethics, and moral conduct within the community
